Yesterday we had Pacen's GI follow up appointment with Dr. Santos in El Paso. We had nice weather heading down to El Paso, but on our way back it was snowing and starting to freeze a little.
We met with Dr. Santos and the appointment went well, we went over the normal "how much does he eat", "does he keep it all down", "how many wet & poopy diapers"... Dr. Santos ordered some blood work to check his liver enzyme levels since leaving the hospital. His liver enzymes were 170
when he was admitted to the hospital, 110 when he was discharged, and normal for a newbie is 50, we will get those results at his next appointment.
He also ordered two other tests that will take us back down to El Paso once they can get an appointment for both tests in one day. One is for an UGIS (upper gastrointestinal series) which is a radiographic contrast study of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. Then, a Gastric emptying reflux and aspiration scan. It is a scan used to see how quickly food leaves the stomach and enters the small intestine. If the test shows that it takes longer than the usual time for the stomach to empty it may explain why he is spitting up so much after drinking anything over 2 oz and a lot of the time just when he drinks 2 oz.
This is Pacen for his first snow, (his actual first snow, he was in the hospital in El Paso) he looks so enthused, huh?
