Ahh! How the heck do we have a THREE year old (And 7 month old) ?! I swear he just turned ONE and we were back in Iowa after leaving Alaska and before starting our journey in New Mexico. I can't even believe the little man he has become. We are celebrating his birthday next weekend at the pool on base with pizza, cake and swimming all afternoon. He is going to love it, although, he keeps asking for a dirt bike, but I don't think that is happening this year. Maybe when he is 15!
Merik had been running a low fever Thursday evening and Friday. He acted fine so we let him play and continued on with our day. Around midnight Friday night he was up crying saying his ear hurt. Of course, on the long weekend when nothing is open, poor buddy! We got through the night and he finally fell asleep around 3am with a fever of 103, and refusing to take medication. I took him to the ER in the morning when he woke up so we could get him some relief. Sure enough, he has a raging ear infection in his left ear. For the kid that is NEVER sick (knock on wood for the future) he gets sick on his birthday. The last time Merik was sick was January 2011, when he needed to go to the doctor, he had a slight ear infection, a fever that was 104 and he was vomiting. Anyways. He is in pretty good spirits, despite feeling crummy. He still doesn't want to take his medication, but I will hide it in something different each time.

Pacen and Daddy had fun singing the Happy Birthday song to Merik. It was sad that Merik didn't feel well all day on his special day, but he did perk up at the end of the evening for his one bite of "muffin". His party is next weekend at the pool. We have an appt for Merik on the 30th for his well child visit so we will ask Dr. Harwood about swimming on Saturday for his party. Maybe we will have to get him some ear plugs so he can still have fun.
