Yep. Can you even believe it?! We got a referral, and appt with a specialist all within one week. This never happens! We were really happy to be seen so quickly, but disappointed on the other hand for the answer that we got. Another half non-answer. We are glad that Dr. Smaltz thinks everything is OK. He did a quick scan of his bladder and said he didn't have any abnormalities or blockages. He said that kids that are constipated generally don't urinate much. When I asked him why, he just recapped the recap and repeated that constipation and little to no urination go hand in hand. So I asked where all of the urine was going, and he said it just isn't there. Soooo here is a breakdown of our day.
930am - wet diaper from overnight
940am - 7 oz elacare and cereal
1030am - 7 oz elacare and a couple crackers waiting for our appt.
1100am - sips of water from a 9 oz sippy cup, it was more than half gone so we will call it 5 oz.
1130am - bladder ultrasound showing less than 1 oz of urine in his bladder.
How does a 22 lb child take in 19 oz of liquid in 2 hours and have less than 1 oz of urine in his bladder and a dry diaper. I gave him lunch which he didn't eat and then another 7 oz bottle before a nap. He slept from 1230 - 4pm and his diaper was just damp.
According to Dr. Smaltz, this is all completely normal, but he couldn't explain why it was "normal." I emailed Dr. H and maybe we can get a 2nd opinion.
Pace also reacted to berries (we think) last night with a bad eczema flare, welts and scratching himself bloody. Poor thing is miserable. He's been loaded up on steroid cream and benadryl to see if it will calm this flare.
He has patches of it all over his stomach, chest, arms, back and a couple on his legs. Left is last night and Right is from today. His scalp is completely covered in eczema and scabs from scratching despite the RX shampoo Dr. H has him using.
These spots on his shoulders are now scabbed over from him scratching himself raw.
